India spinner R Ashwin recently shared his thought on Indian skipper Rohit Sharma leading his side to the World Cup 2023 final. Though the result was not in the favor of Men in Blue, Sharma’s captaincy has been lauded.
Ashwin spoke highly of India’s captain Rohit Sharma, highlighting the unique brand of leadership that he brings to the team. According to Ashwin, Rohit takes the time to personally get to know each and every player on the team, a skill that sets him apart as a leader.
“If you look at Indian cricket, everybody will tell you MS Dhoni is one of the best captains. Rohit Sharma is an outstanding person. He understands every single person in the team, he knows what each one of us likes and dislikes. He has a great understanding. He puts in the effort to know each member personally,” the spinner spoke about leadership.
“He puts in a lot of effort. Forgoes sleep and becomes part of meetings, he first puts in the effort. He takes an effort to understand how to explain tactics to each person. That’s an advanced level of leadership in Indian cricket,” Ashwin further added about Rohit Sharma.
The spinner praised Rohit Sharma for changing the brand of cricket played by India in the ICC tournaments. According to Ashwin, it’s one thing to say that the team wants to play an aggressive style of cricket, but it was Sharma who truly led the way. Ashwin also noted that Sharma set the tone in nearly every match, and managed to take away the fear of losing from the Indian team.
“And also, walking the talk. Telling everyone to play a brand of cricket is one thing, but doing it and showing it on the field is another thing. I have known Rohit for a long time,” Ashwin said.
