Indian badminton star and two-time Olympic medalist PV Sindhu started her campaign at the Singapore Open 2024 on a high note, securing a comfortable victory against Denmark’s Line Hojmark Kjaersfeldt. The match, which lasted 44 minutes, saw Sindhu triumph over her Danish opponent with a score of 21-12, 22-20.

PV Sindhu displays dominance

Sindhu dominated the match from the start, winning the first game with ease. She displayed her superior skills and strategy, leaving Kjaersfeldt struggling to keep up. Despite Kjaersfeldt’s attempts at a comeback in the second game, Sindhu held her nerves better in a close finish to win it 22-20.

This victory is particularly significant for Sindhu, who entered the tournament after signing off with a runner-up finish at the Thailand Open last week. She had last won a BWF title in Singapore two years back, making her current performance in the tournament a promising start.

The match also set up a mouth-watering battle against Rio Olympic champion Carolina Marin of Spain. World No. 3 Marin has an overwhelming 11-5 record against Sindhu. The last time the two clashed, it turned out to be an ill-tempered match at Denmark Open which saw both players receiving yellow cards for verbal exchanges.

Despite the challenges ahead, Sindhu’s performance in the opening round of the Singapore Open demonstrates her readiness to take on tough competitors. Her victory against Kjaersfeldt not only advances her to the next round of the tournament but also boosts her confidence for the upcoming matches.
