PV Sindhu suffers second round defeat to South Korea’s Se Young An at Denmark Open

Following Saina Nehwal’s defeat against Japan’s Sayaka Takahashi yesterday, India’s promenade in the Danisa Denmark Open 2019 saw its termination as the country’s star stuttler PV Sindhu lost to the 17 year old Se Young An from South Korea today in Odense.

Sindhu, currently ranked fifth, was overpowered by the Korean teenager in the first set with a 6-1 lead, and finally met her trounce in the second round 14-21, 17-21, as the 24 year old faced premature elimination three times since claiming gold in the BWF World Championship in Basel back in August 2019.

Young, who is seeded 19th in the tournament, won the 2019 Canada Open, defeating Wang Zhiyi of China, and a m ixed team gold the 2017 Badminton Asia Junior Championships.

Showing precise control and and great composure, the youngster from Gwangju powered through to defeat her toughest opponent yet, progressing to the quarter finals to take on  the reigning Olympic Champion Carolina Marín.

In addition to the double elimination in the women’s singles, the men’s singles contenders B. Sai Praneeth and Sameer Verma were also obliterated by their oppositions. Praneeth crashed out against Kento Momota, the Japanese who is the current world champion. Verma too secured his exit after topping out versus Chen Long, who deposed the 24 year old in the second round.
