PV Sindhu, Satwik-Chirag reach Badminton Asia Championships quarterfinals

The Indian shuttling contingent saw PV Sindhu as well as the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty making it to the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing Badminton Asia Championships tournament currently taking place Manila, Philippines on Thursday.

The Satwik-Chirag duo, ranked no 7 in the world, thrashed Akira Koga and Taichi Saito in th second round, defeating the Japanese pair 21-17, 21-15 to advance to the quarterfinals. They will now take on fifth seeded pair of Malaysian Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik up next.

On the trot, PV Sindhu marked her victory against Yue Yann Jaslyn Hooi, defeating the Singaporean shuttler to a 21-16, 21-16 finish in 42 minutes to seal her place in the women’s singles quarterfinals.

On the other hand, Saina Nehwal and Kidambi Srikanth saw their campaigns coming to an end. Taking on Wang Zhi Yi of China, Saina suffered a 21-12, 7-21, 21-13 loss in a 47-minute match. Srikanth, meanwhile, was knocked out of the tournament after a 16-21, 21-17, 17-21 loss to Chinese player Weng Hong Yang.

The Badminton Asia Championships have started on 26th April and will take place until 1st May.
