PV Sindhu ended her long title drought by clinching the women’s singles title. She defeated China’s Wu Luo Yu with a score of 21-14, 21-16. This victory marks Sindhu’s third title at the Syed Modi International, having previously won in 2017 and 2022. Her last title win was at the Singapore Open in July 2022.
PV Sindhu’s resilience
Sindhu, having improved with every outing, was clearly the more confident one on the court. The first game was easy with the former World Champion always ahead. Wu tried to fight back but Sindhu, with her drops and reach, barely gave her space.
The 2nd game was more of the same and with Wu visibly getting tired with all the running around there was little the Chinese shuttler could do to counter Sindhu’s smashes and stay in the long rallies. She did edge ahead at 11-10 but was unable to sustain herself in the face of intense pressure.
Lakshya Sen secured the men’s singles title by outclassing Singapore’s Jia Heng Jason Teh with a dominant performance, winning 21-6, 21-7 in just 31 minutes. This win comes as a confidence booster for Lakshya after his bronze-medal playoff loss at the Paris Olympics.
