Indian shuttling superstars PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy have bolted into the quarterfinal stage of the ongoing Singapore Open Super 500 tournament after securing wins in their second round outings in Singapore on Wednesday.

Sindhu, who commenced her campaign with an easy win over Belgium’s Lianne Tan, had a much tougher challenge this time against Thuy Linh Nguyen of Vietnam. However, the third seeded Indian edged out with a close 19-21, 21-19, 21-18 win and will now face Chinese player Han Yue up next.

Coming from a comfortable win against Sitthikom Thammasin in his first match, Prannoy secured his last eight entry with a hard fought 14-21, 22-20, 21-18 against world number four Chou Tien Chen, the Taiwanese shuttler who is seeded third in the tournament. Prannoy’s next clash will be against Kodai Naraoka of Japan.

Mithun Manjunath, who pulled off a shocker after defeating compatriot Kidambi Srikanth, went down against Irish star Nhat Nguyen 10-21, 21-18, 16-21 in his second round clash. Ashmita Chaliha also met her end in a 9-21, 13-21 defeat against China’s Han Yue.
