The Indian badminton squad, with PV Sindhu and HS Prannoy at the forefront, will start their campaign at the Malaysia Open Super 750 set to commence from tomorrow onwards at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur.

Sindhu, who had an upsetting and premature conclusion to her Indonesia Open Super 1000 stint after losing to Chinese shuttler He Bing Jiao in the opening round, will open her Malaysia Open campaign against world no 10 Pornpawee Chochuwong from Thailand.

Even though the world no 7 Indian has defeated Pornpawee five times, the Thai has been enjoying the upper hand, having defeated Sindhu in three of their last five faceoffs. If the the two time Olympic medallist heads past Pornpawee, she may find the reigning Olympic champion Chen Yu Fei as her opponent in the next round.

In the meantime, London Olympics bronze medallist Saina Nehwal who skipped the Indonesian event, will open up against Iris Wang from the United States, whom she defeated in three games at the Orleans Masters last year. A victory will see her taking on former world champion, Japan’s Nozomi Okuhara.

In the men’s counterpart, with an aim to clinch his first world title in five years, world no 23 HS Prannoy will open up his run against Daren Liew, the veteran Malaysian who ended his Thailand Open campaign back in May.

B Sai Praneeth and Sameer Verma will also be seen in action, taking on Indonesian players Anthony Sinisuka Ginting and Jonata Christie respectively. Returning from an injury, 2014 Commonwealth Games gold medallist Parupalli Kashyap will face Korea’s Heo Kwang Hee.

Having skipped two back to back tournaments, the pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty will make a comeback in Malaysia and the world no 8 duo will be up against locals Man Wei Chong and Kai Wun Tee.

Ashwini Ponnappa and B Sumeeth Reddy, who are part of the CWG contingent as well, will open up against Dutch pair of Robin Tabeling and Selena Piek in the mixed doubles event. The  Venkat Gaurav Prasad-Juhi Dewangan pair will face Kim Won Ho and Jeong Na Eun of Korea.
