PV Sindhu faced a tough challenge in the opening round of Malaysia Masters as she took on He Bing Jiao and after a nail biting contest that spun almost an hour, came out with a hard fought victory on Wednesday.

Seeded seventh, the two time Olympic medallist shuttler from India marked a 21-13, 17-21, 21-15 win against Bing Jiao to advance into the second round, avenging the loss at Indonesia Open Super 1000 in June.

On the other hand, the men’s singles category saw B Sai Praneeth, Parupalli Kashyap advancing, while Sameer Verma suffered an early exit. Praneeth found an easy work of Guatemalan shuttler Kevin Cordon and picked up a 21-8, 21-9 victory within half an hour. He will now face Li Shi Feng up next.

Kashyap, meanwhile, had a more challenging outing against Tommy Sugiarto, coming back from one game down to emerge victorious (16-21 21-16 21-16). Verma lost his opening match to Taiwan’s Chou Tien Chen 21-10, 12-21, 14-21.
