Punjab FC, the debutants of ISL, ended their first season on a high note by defeating East Bengal FC 4-1 in their last game. This victory not only marked a successful end to Punjab FC’s season but also knocked East Bengal out of the playoff race.

The match was a display of Punjab FC’s dominance, with the terrific trio of Wilmar Jordan, Luka Majcen, and Madih Talal leading the charge. Jordan, with his exceptional skills, managed to score a brace, contributing significantly to the team’s victory.

The match started with Punjab FC taking the lead, thanks to a left-footed effort by Wilmar Jordan. However, East Bengal managed to equalize through a solo goal by youngster Sayan Banerjee. Despite this, Punjab FC didn’t lose their momentum and regained the lead just before halftime, courtesy of Madih Talal.

The second half saw Punjab FC coming out all guns blazing, running East Bengal ragged. Utilizing the space behind East Bengal’s high line of defense, Punjab FC looked dangerous in every move. Madih Talal, driving ahead at every opportunity, set up the third goal for Wilmar Jordan. The Frenchman then set up Luka Majcen for the fourth goal of the match.

This victory was a result of a well-coordinated team effort, with each player contributing to the win. The midfield, with Ricky Shabong, Amarjit Singh Kiyam, and Nikhil Prabhu, successfully bridged the defense and attack line. The defensive combination of Dimitrios Chatziisaias and Suresh Meitei fizzed out opponent attacks.

Punjab FC’s Head Coach, Staikos Vergetis, made just one change in his final starting lineup of the season, bringing in 18-year-old Manglenthlang Kipgen in place of Amarjit Singh Kiyam in the center of the midfield. This decision proved fruitful as Kipgen played a crucial role in the team’s victory.

With this win, Punjab FC finished the season with 24 points from 22 matches, occupying the eighth position in the table. This victory not only marked a successful end to their debut season but also showcased their potential for the upcoming seasons.
