Punjab FC, gearing up for the upcoming 2024-25 season, has made significant signings to strengthen their squad. The club announced the acquisition of two experienced players: Croatian defender Ivan Novoselec and Norwegian forward Mushaga Bakenga.

Ivan Novoselec joins Punjab FC

Born in Varazdin, Croatia, the 29-year-old central defender began his professional career with NK Varazdin in his hometown. He later played for several clubs in Croatia, including Lokomotiva Zagreb, NK Lucko, NK Varteks, NK Sracinec, and Medimurje.

Ivan’s successful stints with these clubs paved the way for his move to Slovenia, where he represented FC Koper before joining Tajik club FC Istiklol. His defensive prowess and experience will be crucial for Punjab FC’s backline in the upcoming season.

Mushaga Bakenga

The 31-year-old Norwegian forward hails from Trondheim, Norway. His football journey began with SK Nationalkameratene in his hometown, where he showcased prolific goal-scoring abilities during his youth career.

Bakenga’s impressive performances caught the attention of European heavyweights like Bayern Munich and Manchester City. He signed for Norwegian top-flight club Rosenberg BK at the age of 15.

Throughout his career, Bakenga has played for various clubs, including Club Brugge in Belgium, Tromso, Ranheim, Odds Ballklubb, and Stabaek (all in Norway), and even had a stint in Asia with Japanese side Tokushima Vortis.

Last season, he featured for Cypriot First Division team Apollon Limassol FC, scoring eight goals and providing four assists. His arrival adds a new dimension to Punjab FC’s attacking lineup, and his experience will be invaluable in their quest for success.

Both Novoselec and Bakenga bring a wealth of experience and talent to Punjab FC. Their signings reflect the club’s commitment to strengthening their squad and competing at the highest level in the Indian Super League (ISL). As the season approaches, fans eagerly await their contributions on the field.
