The first ranking tournament of the Pro Panja League that took place last month was a massive success. Arm Wrestlers from 15 states took part in this tournament.
The league took place at the Thayagraj Stadium in New Delhi on 29th February.
Arm Wrestlers from North East made their presence felt in this tournament as they managed to grab 4 gold medalists across all the categories in the league.
With ranking tournaments over, we had a chance to talk to 70 kg gold medalist Tridip Medhi, who hails from Assam.
We talked about his experience in Delhi and his preparations for the upcoming finals.
1) How are you doing, a few weeks on from winning at PPL 2020 preliminary rounds?
I am doing good. Preparation is going on for the next rounds but not at the best due to the current situation (COVID-19).
2) Has life changed for you after the win? If so how?
Yes, definitely it changed my life after competing in the first-ever Professional Armwrestling League and could register my name as a Champion which is a different feeling than others. Now I can say that ‘I AM A PRO ARMWRESLTER’
3) How are you preparing for the PPL finals and are you doing any special training?
The preparation was good. But due to the current situation (COVID-19), I am out of touch of my gym and workout. I am doing some home workout to maintain.
4) Any specific player that you are looking at as a major competition for yourself at the finals?
For me, every player is a champion and very tough. In this game, nobody can say who is the toughest. It depends on training, hard work and dedication towards the goal. As all are preparing for the next rounds, now competition will be tougher.
5) How do you think the pro arm wrestling scene in India can be further made more popular?
Nowadays Armwrestling is already getting its popularity in India because of the tournaments which are organized by different cities and of course for the Pro Panja League. This is the high time to make this game more popular in India by organizing more tournaments, leagues in various states and yes Supermatches will be a better option to popular this game.
