The first ranking tournament of the Pro Panja League took place at the end of February and it was a massive success. Arm Wrestlers from 15 states took part in this tournament.
The league took place at the Thayagraj Stadium in New Delhi on 29th February.
Arm Wrestlers from Madhya Pradesh bagged three-medals in this tournament. We had the opportunity to talk with Manish Kumar, who won a gold medal in the disabled category at PPL 2020.
We talked to him about his experience in Delhi and his preparations ahead of the finals.
1) How are you doing, a few weeks on from winning at PPL 2020 preliminary rounds?
I am doing absolutely well. After winning gold at PPL, I am getting more recognition and respect in my society.
2) How are you preparing for the PPL finals and are you doing any special training?
My training is currently limited because of the lockdown but I am preparing well. I am doing my usual workouts which are effective. Pulling is a major part of my training.
3) Any specific player that you are looking at as a major competition for yourself at the finals?
No, I haven’t been targeting any specific player, I am ready for anyone. I am, however, very confident about winning the PPL final. I am much more experienced than anyone as I am the only world champion of arm wrestling from India.
4) How do you think the pro arm wrestling scene in India can be further made more popular?
I think the sport of arm wrestling can be grown in India by tie-ups of PPL with major sports networks in India. This is the single most effective step to promote the sport.
