While arm wrestling was initially used just as a means to exhibit power and dominance, it has evolved to be a competitive sport and it is fair to say that the sensation has hit the largest democracy in the world. Although inevitable, the growth of this sport is expected to surge with the upcoming Pro Panja League 2020.
Shunted by the emergence of other sports in the same time period, arm wrestling’s hibernation time has concluded with the sport expecting to sweep over the nation in due time.
With talent and the numbers brimming, all the sport required was a platform that can be used to propel the sport into a level it deserves to be.
Due to the ease of access and the cost of training that comes along with it when compared to other sports, arm wrestling holds an advantage and thus can be pursued by the layman as well. The factors align with the fact that there has been a spike in the number of people poking their way into the world of arm wrestling with a significant number of women as well.
To paint a picture of how the sport has grown over time and how it will grow in the future, statistics show that no women registered for two whole decades in the National Level competition after the federation was found in 1977.
Today, the number has risen with women actively being involved in participating, officiating, mentoring and coaching across all the levels.
Arm Wrestling will see an insurmountable growth that will help the athletes to flourish even on an international level, making them a role model and inspiring others with potential to take up the sport.
By the increase in followers, the athletes will be able to garner funds from the central government as well, which at the moment does not bear any expense with the State Government being entirely responsible for it at the moment.
Inspired by their childhood memories or encouraged by close ones after seeing potential, whatever the cause may be, the end result is satisfying not only for the athlete but also for the sport.
There are numerous inspiring stories all over the country where athletes have clenched their fists to make it to the top and they have an opportunity alongside some new faces to go down the history books by making their way to the Pro Panja League 2020.
The inaugural Pro Panja League is set to take place at the Thyagraj Stadium in New Delhi on 29th February 2020.
