Praveen Chithravel, a 24-year-old athlete from Tamil Nadu, has set his sights on the Paris Olympics 2024. He is all set to compete at the Federation Cup with the aim of meeting the Olympic qualification mark.

Praveen Chithravel ignites hope for India in triple jumping

Chithravel recently impressed at the Indian Grand Prix 1 in Bengaluru, where he clinched the men’s triple jump gold with a 17.12m effort. This performance was his season’s best mark, achieved in his fourth attempt. However, it fell just short of the Paris Olympics qualification mark of 17.22m.

“I’m happy with my effort today. It’s the season opener and hopefully, I’ll do better in the coming days,” Praveen said.

Chithravel, who set the national record in Havana in May last year, is no stranger to high-stakes competition. His recent performance at the Indian Grand Prix was the fourth-best by an Indian at home. Despite the pressure, Chithravel’s performance was commendable, finishing an agonizing 10 cm behind the Olympic qualifying mark.

“I need to make some changes in the run-up. There are some other basic changes but I think I am getting there now,” Praveen concluded with his upcoming plan. No Indian triple jumper participated in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics but Praveen has surely ignited the hopes for Indian athletics.

Chithravel’s journey to the Olympics is not over. He will continue to compete in major competitions, earning ranking points for the qualification to the Paris Olympics 2024. His performance at the Federation Cup will be crucial in this journey.
