As the countdown to the Paris Paralympics 2024 begins, India’s contingent of para-athletes is gearing up for an extraordinary showcase of talent and determination. Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently interacted with these athletes, providing encouragement, motivation, and unwavering support.

India is sending its largest-ever contingent to the Paralympics, with 84 athletes competing across 12 sports. These sports include archery, athletics, badminton, canoeing, cycling, blind judo, powerlifting, rowing, shooting, swimming, table tennis, and taekwondo. The games are scheduled to commence on August 28, promising a celebration of resilience and achievement.

PM Modi’s Encouragement for Paris Paralympics’ Athletes

During the virtual interaction, Union Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports, Mansukh Mandaviya, joined PM Modi. The Prime Minister expressed pride in the athletes’ excellence and their ability to overcome obstacles. He emphasized that willpower, dedication, and hard work can conquer any challenge.

India’s 84 athletes will participate in the Paris Paralympics, with 50% of them making their debut at this prestigious event.

In the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics, Indian athletes secured 19 medals, showcasing their remarkable performance and creating history. Additionally, they clinched 111 medals at the 2022 Asian Para Games.

India will compete in three new sports—para-cycling, para-rowing, and blind judo—expanding the country’s participation to 12 sports.

PM Modi assured the athletes that 140 crore countrymen are blessing them. He urged them to give their best, break records, and make India proud.

As the Indian contingent prepares to shine on the global stage, the nation eagerly awaits their remarkable feats. These para-athletes embody courage, determination, and the spirit of never giving up.
