Prime Minister Narendra Modi has taken a proactive step toward India’s ambitious goal of hosting the 2036 Olympics. During an interaction with Indian athletes, both in person and virtually, he sought their valuable insights and experiences to ensure a successful sporting extravaganza on home soil.

India’s firm stance on hosting the 2036 Olympics

India is actively bidding to host the 2036 Olympics. PM Modi emphasized the importance of athletes’ perspectives in shaping the event’s preparations. Modi invited athletes who have participated in multiple Olympics to share their observations and suggestions. Their firsthand knowledge of planning, arrangements, sports management, and event execution is invaluable.

“Our country is planning to get hosting rights for the 2036 Olympic Games. I even said this from the Red fort today, we are trying our best. Athletes who’ve played in the previous edition of the Olympics as well, their inputs are important. You must’ve observed a lot there, from the planning of the Olympics to the arrangements, from sports management to event management. We must write down our observations and experiences and share it with the government so that while preparing for 2036 Olympics these small nuances can be taken care of,” PM Modi told Indian athletes.

Addressing the Indian contingent, PM Modi referred to them as his “army of Team 2036.” He urged them to collaborate closely, ensuring meticulous planning and execution for an Olympic experience like never before.

“In a way, you’re an army of my team 2036, you all will have to help me. So that in 2036, we’re able to host an Olympic like never before. I’d like the sports ministry to prepare a draft for the same and take their feedbacks and suggestions in detail so we will be able to prepare well,” he added.

To achieve this vision, substantial infrastructure development will be necessary. Cities like Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad are potential front-runners for hosting. The sports ministry will draft plans based on athletes’ feedback and suggestions.

India’s last major multi-sport event was the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi. Now, with the collective efforts of athletes, officials, and the government, India aims to create an Olympic legacy that resonates for generations to come.
