Pakistan has not been having the best of World Cups this year. And to add to their misery, they lost by a margin of 89 runs to arch-rivals India. This was their seventh straight defeat at the hands of India in World Cups. They have failed to win even one game against the men in blue.
However, when they lost on the 16th of June, they came under a lot of criticism from their fans and the cricket fraternity alike. Many of the former Pakistan players criticized the current team and the choices they made. One of those players is former wicket-keeper Kamran Akmal. Akmal has urged former skipper and current Prime Minister Imran Khan to take action against the team.
Akmal has come out criticizing the captain of the national side while also urging the Prime Minister to take action against the team.
“Pakistan has not won any match in the World Cup, where they opted to chase. The only win was against England where Pakistan batted first. Whereas, against West Indies, 105 was all they could manage. Our batting badly flopped and all the flaws were exposed by the opponents,” Akmal told Pakistan’s English daily ‘The Nation’.
“I request Prime Minister Imran Khan, who is also Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) patron, to start ruthless accountability and all those, who inflicted huge damages on Pakistan cricket, must face the music. We are blessed with so many natural cricketers, who, if selected on merit, can strengthen Pakistan batting and bowling and can take Pakistan team to a much higher level,” he added.
Earlier this week, the PCB announced their plans of carrying out an in-depth review of the team and the management. They will accordingly be submitting suggestions to the PCB chairman.
In the game against India, it was Rohit Sharma’s 140 that stood between the two teams. India ended up scoring 336. However, Pakistan could only manage 212 in their 40 overs in a rain-affected match. Pakistan will have to win all their remaining games, starting Sunday against South Africa. However, they cannot be sure of making it to the Semi-Finals even after winning all the games. Pakistan is currently 9th on the points table.
