The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has sought clarification from the International Cricket Council (ICC) regarding India’s decision not to participate in the Champions Trophy 2025. This move came after the ICC confirmed that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) would not send its team to Pakistan for the tournament.
India has not travelled to Pakistan for cricket matches since the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. The two teams have only faced each other in ICC tournaments. The PCB is seeking clarity on the ICC’s stance and any potential legal implications.
Hybrid Model Consideration for Champions Trophy
There were speculations about a hybrid model, similar to the Asia Cup, where India’s matches could be held in a neutral venue like Dubai. However, the PCB has stated that there is no talk of implementing such a model for the Champions Trophy.
The PCB is concerned about the legal implications for the ICC, as the governing body has provided undertakings to broadcasters and sponsors that all top cricket-playing nations will participate in its tournaments. The PCB is awaiting policy guidelines from the government regarding India, which will be cited to seek clarification from the ICC.
