PCB’s plans for Champions Trophy 2025
The PCB plans to install new floodlights at both the Karachi and Lahore stadiums specifically for the upcoming Champions Trophy. These modern floodlights will ensure optimal visibility during day-night matches, enhancing the overall cricketing experience for players and spectators alike.
To manage costs effectively, the PCB will transfer the existing floodlights from Karachi to Quetta and those from Lahore to Rawalpindi. By repurposing existing infrastructure, they aim to achieve the desired lighting quality without unnecessary expenses.
The PCB has initiated a process to invite tenders from eligible companies. These companies will provide light towers on a rental basis for the period between August 2024 and July 2025. This move ensures that smaller venues, including Quetta, Abbottabad, and Peshawar, also have adequate lighting for domestic cricket matches held under hot weather conditions.
The focus is on maintaining international standards for lighting during matches. Major venues like Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi, where most international games and Champions Trophy matches will take place, will receive state-of-the-art light towers. Uninterrupted provision of light is crucial for high-quality cricket.
Due to fluctuations in power supply and load-shedding issues, the PCB uses generators to power the light towers on the grounds. Invitations for tenders have also been extended for the provision of generators in cities like Karachi, Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan, Faisalabad, Abbottabad, Quetta, and Peshawar.

The PCB is actively renovating its stadiums in Karachi, Lahore, and Rawalpindi. As part of this facelift, the second Test match between Pakistan and Bangladesh in Karachi will be played without spectators due to ongoing construction work. The PCB has allocated funds to cover all costs associated with these upgrades.
