Parupalli Kashyap reaches Taipei Open quarterfinals, Tanisha Crasto gets double treat

Tanisha Crasto won both of her women’s and mixed doubles outings, while Parupalli Kashyap is now the lone Indian shuttler in the men’s singles category at the ongoing Taipei Open Super 300 after reaching the quarterfinals as Priyanshu Rajawat, Mithun Manjunath and Kiran George all crashed out in the second round of the event on Thursday.

Seeded third, Kashyap earned his victory over Chia Hao Lee, defeating the Taiwanese player by a comfortable 21-10 21-19 margin in just 36 minutes. After Kashyap dominated the first game, Lee attempted to make a strong comeback in the second but was ousted by the Indian. Kashyap’s next challenge will be Malaysia’s Soong Joo Ven.

Meanwhile, Priyanshu, Mithun and Kiran had their campaigns coming to an end. Taking on local star Chen Chi Ting, Priyanshu went down 21-19 21-13 in the second round. Mithun’s suffered his loss against Kodai Naraoka, the Japanese who trailed in the first game but won the next two as well as the match by a 22-24, 21-5, 21-17 margin.

Kiran had a neck to neck tussle against top seeded Chen Tien Chou as he leveled the odds in the second game, but was outplayed in the decider as the Taiwanese sailed with a 23-21, 16-21, 21-7 victory. In the women’s counterpart, Samiya Imad Farooqi went down against Wen Chi Hsu 21-18, 21-13 to bow out of the event.

The mixed doubles pair of Ishaan Bhatnagar and Tanisha Crasto were able to cruise into the quarters as the sixth seeded duo defeated Taiwan’s Cheng Kai Wen of Wang Yu Qiao 21-14, 21-17. Tanisha marked her second win of the day, pairing with Shruti Mishra to sail into the women’s doubles quarterfinals with a 21-14, 21-8 win against Jia Yin Lin and Lin Yu-Hao.
