The Indian team has been playing excellent cricket for a while now. They are not only dominating their opponents in India, but they are also challenging them in their own backyard. Former Indian wicket-keeper and batsman Parthiv Patel has given his take on why the Indian team has been performing so well.
Recently, India defeated the English team at the home of cricket by 151 runs in a remarkable test match. England had a stronghold over the test match till Rishabh Pant’s wicket on Day 5. Then the Indian tail, who has been underperforming for the past few years, took the game away from them with the bat.
Mohammed Shami and Bumrah stitched a partnership of 89 runs for the ninth wicket to set up a target of 272 runs for the Joe Root-led side. Indian bowlers were too good for the English batters. Hence, the bowlers dismantled the English batters inside 52 overs.
But what stood out the most was the camaraderie between all the Indian players. The Indian players stood for Bumrah and supported him after the England players targeted him for bowling bouncers to James Anderson.
Bonding between the Indian players in the dressing room and IPL should be given the credit: Parthiv Patel
Meanwhile, Parthiv Patel, who himself has been a part of the dressing room discussed the reasons behind this camaraderie. Parthiv Patel believes that the close bonding between the IPL and Indian players in the dressing room has helped the team in achieving recent successful results.
“If you look at the Indian dressing room as of now, you see Ishant Sharma roaming around with Virat Kohli. But, you also see Ishant Sharma and Umesh Yadav, both different characters move around. Rishabh Pant goes out with Hardik Pandya, one is from the west, the other is from the north. There are a few guys from the east I think,” Parthiv said on the Players Lounge podcast.
“If you look at Dinesh Karthik and Hardik/ Krunal Pandya, they are best of friends. One can’t speak English, one cant speak Hindi and still they get along really well. I think why the Indian team is doing really well in this era is because they gel really well together and IPL has to get credit for it as well,” he added.
