After Avani Lekhara‘s world record settling finish on the opening day, the ongoing Chateauroux Para Shooting World Cup got its second gold medallist from India as Sriharsha Devaraddi Ramakrishna clinched gold in the mixed 10m air rifle SH2 and winning a quota at the Paris 2024 Paralympics in the process.

Clocking a final score of 253.1, Ramakrishna finished at the top of the podium, ahead of Francek Tirsek of Slovakia and Tanguy De La Forest of France who finished with 252.6 and 230.3 scores to win the silver and bronze medals respectively.

Ramakrishna’s triumph comes in the wake of Avani Lekhara, the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics champion who set a new world record in winning the R2 – women’s 10m air rifle standing finals and earning her Paris 2024 berth.

She finished with a final score of 250.6, setting a new world record as well as beating her own previous world record of 249.6 to clinch the gold, beating out Emilia Babska of Poland and Anna Normann of Sweden who bagged the silver and bronze with 247.6 and 225.6 points respectively.

“This event is very important for me as it is the first event after Tokyo. It will help me understand the progress that I’ve made on various aspects that I have been working on since then,” Lekhara, who won a gold and bronze in Tokyo last year said to the Paralympic Committee of India (PCI).

“It is also my first international event with my new equipment and this will help me analyse my game further and know further adjustments that need to be made!” Lekhara went on discussing her target for 2022, which “is to consistently analyse my game and improve the little bits. To be a consistent shooter is my aim and hopefully win medals along the way too.”

Following their trimphs, the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi took to Twitter to congratulate both Lekhara and Ramakrishna.

“Congratulations @AvaniLekhara for this historic accomplishment. May you keep scaling newer heights of success and inspiring others. My best wishes,” the PM tweeted and in another post, he wrote, “Proud of Sriharsha Devaraddi for wining the Gold. His determination is truly motivating. Best wishes for his future endeavours.”
