Team India all-rounder Hardik Pandya will reportedly be a part of the pre-IPL camp staged by the BCCI at the NCA in Bangalore. The national team’s white-ball players have been asked to be part of the 10-day camp that has been scheduled to assess the fitness levels of players in the build-up to the 2022 T20 World Cup.
Hardik Pandya last played in national colors during the T20 World Cup in the UAE back in November. He was dropped for the ensuing home series against New Zealand as he continued to build his fitness levels to be able to bowl at regular intervals.
He initially chose to skip the camp and continue his rehabilitation in Mumbai. However, a call from the selection committee prompted Pandya to change his decision. Pandya is likely to join the camp in two days’ time after making a call. The newly-appointed Gujarat Titans captain faces stiff competition in the side from Venkatesh Iyer for the all-rounder spot in the lower middle order.
“Yes, Hardik will join the camp. He was not part of the players called up for the camp earlier as he did not give us any update on his recovery progress. But as the selectors want him to keep in the mix for the South Africa series, he has been added to the list. He will join the camp on Tuesday,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.
The franchises are said to be unhappy over the BCCI’s decision to hold a camp right before the commencement of the IPL campaign.
Pandya will be next seen during the 15th edition of the IPL for the new franchise, Gujarat Titans. This will be his first venture when it comes to leadership. However, it is yet to be known in what capacity would Pandya feature for the team.
