Pakistan Teammates Come in Defense of Haris Rauf After ‘Fan Fight’ Video Goes Viral

Haris Rauf

Pakistan’s ICC T20 World Cup 2024 campaign in the USA and West Indies ended not just in disappointment on the field, but an ugly incident off it as well. In a viral video, fast bowler Haris Rauf was seen engaging in a heated argument with a fan, needing to be physically restrained by his wife and a couple of other personnel.

In the 54-second clip that went viral on social media, Haris was seen walking with his wife before being interrupted by a few fans, who requested a selfie. Although the exact words from the conversation between the cricketer and the fans were not quite clear from the video, Haris seemed to have lost his cool and charged towards them. His wife attempted to stop him, but Haris took off his slippers and ran towards the fans and could have almost entered into a fight had he not been stopped by one of them.

Haris, who was held by one of the fans in a bid to avoid him from getting into a fight, was then heard saying: “Indian hoga yeh (He must be an Indian),” but the fan replied, “I’m from Pakistan.”

Amidst all this drama, Rauf’s teammate and another Pakistan quick Hasan Ali took to X to urge fans to keep the criticism respectful without hurting any players’ emotions.

“I’ve seen a video circulating online about Harry and I urge all my dearest cricket fans to remember that criticism can be constructive without being hurtful. Let’s keep the debate respectful and considerate of the players’ families. Let’s promote love, peace and respect for the GAME. We all want Pakistan cricket to rise, love you all,” Ali said.

Tough campaign for PAK at T20 WC

Pakistan had entered the competition with hopes of claiming their second T20 world title, having won the 2009 edition. However, their campaign never really got going after facing upset at the hands of the USA and arch-rivals India.

Though they managed to bounce back with wins over Canada and Ireland, Pakistan’s chances were all but extinguished by a devastating last-over loss to arch-rivals India. When the USA vs Ireland fixture was eventually washed out, it confirmed Pakistan’s premature elimination.
