After more than three months, football is finally back in action in England, as the top leagues have all resumed the ongoing seasons. However, the atmosphere in the stadium is quite different, as the remaining matches are to be played in a behind closed doors format, due to the presence of COVID-19 threat. Meantime, a number of clubs decided to go ahead with cardboard cutouts of spectators in an attempt to recreate some of the pre-Coronavirus stadium atmosphere. However, it all went wrong in case of Leeds United, as the notorious Osama Bin Laden was spotted in their stands!

While the stadium crazy spectators are unable to attend the matches, Leeds reached out to its fans to send the photos of themselves and their loved ones to be placed as cardboard cutouts at their home ground at Elland Road, for the price of £25 to have a 76cm x 46cm cardboard copy of themselves to be placed in the seats.

Unfortunately, the move bit the EFL Championship back in the face, as the image of the al-Qaeda leader was spotted on one of the cardboard cutouts to be used during Leeds’ face off against Fulham this Saturday.

One fan spotted his own photo next to Laden’s cutout, and uploaded the image on Twitter which soon went viral all over the micro blogging website.

While the photos were rapidly gaining hysterical reactions from the netizens, the club soon noticed the hilarious yet offensive error, and immediately took to action to have the cardboard removed.

While it has been nine years since the mastermind behind the September 11 attacks was killed by the United States Navy SEALs in 2011, football stadium wasn’t an unfamiliar place for Laden. It was later discovered that the notorious terrorist mastermind was an avid fan of Arsenal, and often went to see the Gunners home matches during his residence in London in the 1990s.

Leeds are currently second in the Championship table, with 71 points from 38 matches.
