Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan recently announced on social media that he would not accompany the team for the UEFA Europa League finals clash against Chelsea at Baku. The Arsenal star had been granted a special visa despite the boiling tensions between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Mkhitaryan believes that the country failed to give him adequate security assurances and this decision has motivated the rest of the Gunners squad for performing better.
“We know it is a big shame but we respect his decision. It is not easy for him to go there because of political problems. It is a big shame but now we have one more motivation to win,” said Pierre Emerick Aubameyang.
Everyone wants to play in the Champions League
Arsenal finishing outside of the top-four for the third time in a row in the Premier League means the club has to again go through the route of the Europa League to get a chance to play in the continent’s elite club level competition.
Aubameyang believes that everyone is motivated to give their best so that they could once again play in the Champions League.
“Everybody here wants to be back in the Champions League. That’s been the target since the beginning of the season.”
