The 2024 Paris Olympics are set to showcase the prowess of Indian boxers, but the draw has presented both challenges and opportunities. Indian boxers Nikhat Zareen and Lovlina Borgohain have been handed tough draws in their respective weight categories at the Paris Olympics 2024.

Nikhat Zareen (Women’s 50kg):

Nikhat Zareen, a two-time world champion, faces a tricky path. In the round of 32, she takes on Germany’s Maxi Carina Kloetzer. If she advances, Nikhat could meet China’s Wu Yu, the reigning Asian Games champion, in the round of 16. Wu Yu is also the world champion in the women’s 52kg division. Potential quarter-final opponents include Thailand’s Chuthamat Raksat or Uzbekistan’s Sabina Bobokulova, both formidable opponents.

Lovlina Borgohain (Women’s 75kg): Lovlina, a Tokyo 2020 bronze medalist, starts her campaign against Norway’s Sunniva Hofstad. A quarter-final clash with China’s Li Qian awaits Lovlina. Qian, a two-time Olympic medalist, defeated Lovlina in the Asian Games final.

Jasmine Lamboria (Women’s 57kg): Jasmine faces the Philippines’ Nesthy Petecio, a silver medalist from Tokyo 2020, in her opening bout. If she progresses, Jaismine could meet France’s Amina Zidani, the reigning European champion, in the next round.

Preeti Pawar (Women’s 54kg): Preeti takes on Vietnam’s Vo Thi Kim Anh in the round of 32.

Amit Panghal (Men’s 51kg): Amit, a Tokyo 2020 Olympian, receives a bye in the opening round. His first opponent will be Zambia’s Patrick Chinyemba.

Nishant Dev (Men’s 71kg): Like Amit, Nishant also gets a bye. He faces Ecuador’s Jose Rodriguez Tenorio in his first bout.

The boxing events kick off with the preliminary rounds on July 27 at the Arena Paris Nord. Let’s cheer for our boxers as they aim for glory.
