Aman Sehrawat’s rise at Paris Olympics

At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Aman Sehrawat etched his name in history by becoming India’s youngest Olympic medallist. His bronze medal victory in the men’s 57kg wrestling category was a moment of pride for the nation. In a thrilling match, he defeated Puerto Rico’s Darian Toi Cruz with a commanding score of 13-5.

Sehrawat’s ascent in the rankings reflects his consistent performance. Before Paris, he was ranked sixth in the world. His journey at the Olympics showcased his resilience. Despite losing in the semifinals to Japan’s Rei Higuchi (the current world No. 1), Aman bounced back to secure the bronze.

In earlier rounds, he displayed dominance by defeating North Macedonia’s Vladimir Egorov and Albania’s Zelimkhan Abakanov.

Interestingly, Aman had previously faced another Indian wrestler, Ravi Kumar Dahiya, in the national selection trials for the Olympic qualifiers. His victory earned him a spot at Paris 2024. Ravi Kumar Dahiya secured a silver medal in the same weight class at the Tokyo Olympics.

With Aman’s bronze medal, India continues its impressive streak of winning a wrestling medal at every Olympic Games since 2008. His achievement adds to the rich tapestry of Indian wrestling, where legends like Sushil Kumar and Yogeshwar Dutt have left indelible marks.

Aman Sehrawat’s rise to World No. 2 is not just about rankings; it’s a story of passion, perseverance, and the pursuit of excellence. As he continues to hone his skills, we eagerly await more victories on the global stage.
