Nishant Dev, the Indian boxer who narrowly missed out on a medal at the Paris Olympics 2024, has announced his transition to professional boxing. The 24-year-old, who competed in the 71kg category, is set to make his professional debut on January 25th in Las Vegas. Dev, who has signed with Matchroom Boxing, expressed his excitement about this new chapter in his career and his goal to become India’s first-ever world professional boxing champion.

Reflecting on his amateur career, Dev mentioned his achievements, including a bronze medal at the 2023 World Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Despite his disappointment over the split-decision loss to Mexico’s Marco Verde Alvarez at the Olympics, Dev is optimistic about his professional journey. He is being trained by former professional boxer Ronald Simms, who believes he has the right team and support to reach the top of the sport.
Dev’s debut fight in Las Vegas is part of a card that includes a super middleweight contest between Steve Nelson and Diego Pacheco as the main event. Dev has urged the support of his fellow countrymen as he embarks on this new path.

“I’m very excited to be joining Matchroom Boxing and beginning my professional career in Las Vegas on January 25th,” Dev wrote on Instagram. “My goal is to become India’s first-ever world professional boxing champion, and I know I have a whole nation behind me to help me achieve this.”
