Odisha FC, the reigning champions of the Indian Women’s League (IWL), is set to represent India in the inaugural AFC Women’s Champions League 2024-25. This participation marks a significant milestone for Indian football, as it is the first time an Indian club will compete in this prestigious tournament.

Odisha FC to feature at AFC Women’s Champions League

Odisha FC earned their spot in the AFC Women’s Champions League by winning the IWL 2023-24 title. The Bhubaneswar-based side demonstrated exceptional performance, winning 10 of its 12 games to finish at the top of the IWL league table with 31 points.

The AFC Women’s Champions League, which replaces the AFC Women’s Club Championship, is set to be Asia’s premier women’s club football competition from the 2024-25 season. The tournament will feature teams from 20 countries. The competition structure includes a preliminary round, a group stage, and knockout rounds.

The preliminary stage, kicking off in August, will be played in a centralized league format. The top teams from this stage will qualify for the group stage of the Women’s Champions League. Clubs from nations with a superior world ranking will directly start in the group stage.

Odisha FC is expected to feature in the group stage, which will consist of 12 teams separated into three groups of four each. This phase will be contested in a single round-robin format and will take place in October. The top two teams in each group and the two best third-placed clubs will advance to the quarter-finals of the AFC Women’s Champions League 2024-25.

The knockout stages will begin in March 2025, while the semi-finals and final will be played as a single-leg contest at a centralized venue in May next year.
