The mega auction for IPL 2022 is all set for February as the registration process for the season is complete. As per reports, a total of 1214 cricketers which include 270 capped and 312 uncapped players, have given their names for the auction. However, plenty of notable names has opted out of the cash-rich cricket league due to various reasons. Let’s have a look at the prominent names that are set to miss the upcoming season.
Here are the notable names which are set to miss IPL 2022:
5. Sam Curran
Sam Curran, who has been an integral part of the CSK franchise for the last couple of years did not register his name for the tournament as he had to focus on his rehabilitation. The young fast-bowling allrounder revealed in a tweet that had to sadly decide not to enter the competition. Instead, he would be starting his season with Surrey after his rehab.
It was agreed that sadly I should not enter the IPL auction this year and to focus on my rehabilitation. I’m back in the nets and feeling great so hope to be back soon, Wishing everyone all the best for the tournament. I look forward to starting the season with @surreycricket

4. Mitchell Starc
The left-arm speedster from New South Wales has been one of the most prominent absentees from the biggest cricket competition. Starc hasn’t participated in the IPL since 2015. Now, once again the pacer has opted not to register for the IPL mega auction. During the Ashes, Starc had hinted at a comeback to the IPL. But seems like he changed his mind and will focus on playing for Australia exclusively.
3. Ben Stokes
Ben Stokes is another prominent name who opted out of the IPL. The English allrounder made it quite clear that he won’t be available for the upcoming auction in order to pay the required attention to England’s Test preparations post Ashes debacle. Various reports that are circling claim that Stokes may be in line for a Test captaincy role as there is a big question mark over Joe Root’s captaincy after a 4-0 loss in the Ashes.
2. Jofra Archer
Jofra Archer has been away from competitive cricket for a long time. The right-arm quick who originally hails from the Caribbean suffered an elbow injury that ruled him out of the entire summer. It is still not revealed when the speedster will return. Jofra has also not registered for the mega auction where he could have easily got the highest bid given his stature in the format.
1. Chris Gayle
The most surprising absentee among all is the Universe Boss Chris Gayle. Gayle has played a huge role in popularising IPL. The Southpaw has amassed over 4900 runs which include 6 centuries and his record-breaking 175*. According to a report in Crictracker, Chris Gayle might have side-lined himself due to age concerns. The IPL 2022 will certainly miss the antics, entertainment, and star power of the universe boss who will go down in the history books as an IPL legend.
While he did have his time with @PunjabKingsIPL & @KKRiders , he will always be associated with @RCBTweets. Him and @ABdeVilliers17 have been their two must loved imports. https://t.co/yhdOS0FYXV
