2024 T20 World Cup: With the risk of rain looming over the head of India vs England match, Indian fans aren’t too worried. As a rain abandoned match will send India directly into the final of the world cup. But India won’t be the 1st team to do so.
India vs England: World Cup Final Without Winning a SF
With 3 wins in 3 matches, India was on the top of it’s group in the Super 8. And now India stands comfortably with a possible seat in the final even without a semi final match.
However, this is not the 1st instance of a team getting into the final without winning the Semifinal. In 1999, despite failing to win the semifinal against South Africa, the Aussies got into the world cup final.
In the Super Six, Australia was ahead of South Africa and it was used to determine the outcome of the tied match.

What Happened in the 1999 World Cup Final?
After receiving a free pass to the final, the Aussies faced Pakistan (the leader of the Super 6). The Australian team(known for it’s exceptional performances in big games) proved to the world that they truly deserved to play the final.
Australia managed to end Pakistan’s innings in just 39 overs with a score of 132. And easily chased down the score in 20 overs with just 2 fallen wickets.
1999 marked the beginning of the dominance of the Australian team that won three back to back world cup titles (1999, 2004, 2007).
