The World Olympic Boxing Qualifier has been a platform for many aspiring boxers to showcase their skills and secure their spots in the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympics. Among the participants, two Indian boxers, Nishant Dev and Sachin Siwach, have made significant strides in the tournament.

Nishant Dev’s Path to the Finals

Nishant Dev, competing in the 71kg category, has been a force to reckon with in the tournament. He started his journey with a resounding victory against Mongolia’s Otgonbaatar Byamba-Erdeneto. Nishant’s aggressive approach and flurry of punches forced a standing count in the very first minute, leading to the Referee Stopping the Contest (RSC) with 58 seconds still left in round 1.

Following this, Nishant faced Thailand’s Peerapat Yeasungnoen in the quarterfinals. Displaying his boxing prowess, he secured a 5-0 unanimous decision win, advancing to the semifinals. With this victory, Nishant is now just one win away from securing a Paris 2024 Olympics quota in his category.

Sachin Siwach’s Semifinal Journey

Sachin Siwach, competing in the 57kg division, has also had an impressive run in the tournament. He began his campaign with a decisive victory against New Zealand’s Alex Mukuka. Dominating from the start, Sachin ensured a unanimous 5-0 verdict from the judges.

In the pre-quarterfinals, Siwach faced Denmark’s Frederik Jensen. He took the fight to Jensen right from the start, and his confidence only grew as the match progressed. He picked up a 5-0 win by unanimous verdict, advancing to the quarterfinals.

Sachin’s performance in the tournament has been commendable, and he is now in the semifinals. He needs to reach the top three in his weight class to secure a Paris 2024 Olympics quota.
