Indian boxing ace and the reigning world champion Nikhat Zareen, who recently bagged a gold at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, has her aim set for glory at the Paris Olympics in 2024.
Coming from a gold medal finish in flyweight at the 2022 IBA Women’s World Boxing Championships in Istanbul earlier this year, Nikhat bagged her second gold of the year with a dominating 5-0 victory in the women’s light flyweight summit clash against Carly McNaul of Northern Ireland.
“With the Asiad being rescheduled to next year, I will try to qualify again and go for the gold there,” said Nikhat in a recent interview, as per Sportstar. “Of course, Paris Olympics is the ultimate dream for sure and the journey started when I was preparing for the last Nationals, itself.”
“Well, the biggest challenge for me from changing the weight category of 52 kg (in which she won the Worlds gold) to the 48-50 kg in the CWG was to sacrifice my taste for food,” the 26-year-old went on, “And, honestly, also I didn’t have time to really celebrate my World championship gold as I had to go for training to Belfast for CWG and that training helped me a lot.”
