Indian boxer Nikhat Zareen showcased her tenacity and skill in a gritty battle against Germany’s Maxi Carina Kloetzer in the women’s 50kg category at the Paris 2024 Olympics. Despite trailing early, Zareen turned the tide, prevailing with a 5-0 unanimous decision.
Nikhat Zareen’s super punch at Paris Olympics
In her Olympic debut, Zareen faced a determined Kloetzer. The German boxer used her jabs effectively, but Zareen countered with strong blows. The judges narrowly favoured Kloetzer in the opening round.
Undeterred, Zareen attacked aggressively in the second round. Both boxers received point deductions, but Zareen regained control. Energy levels dipped in the third round, yet Zareen’s experience helped her evade Kloetzer’s attacks.
The two-time world champion staged a remarkable comeback, securing victory by unanimous decision. Her resilience and determination propelled her to the pre-quarterfinals.
Zareen now faces top-seeded Wu Yu from the People’s Republic of China in the round of 16. Wu Yu, reigning world champion in the 52kg category, poses a formidable challenge.

Nikhat is one of India’s strongest medal contenders in the six-member boxing contingent at the Paris Olympics. Last night, Preethi Pawar registered her victory in her Olympic debut, winning 5-0 against Vietnamese Vo Thi Kim Anh in the women’s 54kg category.
