Neymar will now miss the first 3 group stage games in the next season’s UEFA Champions League.
PSG starlet Neymar Jr. has been handed a 3 Champions League games suspension by the UEFA following his controversial Instagram post after his side suffered a 1-3 defeat to Manchester United to exit the tournament in April.
Having taken a comfortable 2-0 lead in the first leg at Old Tafford, PSG once again went on to bottle the tie losing 1-3 at home. The Red Devils profited through a late penalty that was awarded through VAR after the officials spotted Presnel Kimpembe block Diogo Dalot’s shot with his arm.
After Rashford scored the controversial penalty and sent PSG packing home, an angered Neymar, who was forced to miss the tie due to a broken foot took to Instagram to take a dig at the referees as well as VAR.
“That is a disgrace! And UEFA still pick four guys who know nothing about football to review the VAR decision in slow motion… that handball simply doesn’t exist! How do you handball behind your back? Ahh.. go f*ck yourselves,” Neymar wrote on his Instagram stories.
UEFA told that they would investigate the post and have now settled for a 3 game ban. They went on to conclude that Neymar violated Article 15 (1) (d) of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations for insulting/molesting acts against a match official.
Meanwhile, Neymar returned to playing football last week in a 3-1 thrashing of Monaco that saw his side claim the Ligue 1 title. He and his team will have an eye on another piece of sliverware when PSG face Rennes in the Coupe de France final tonight.
