Rajasthan Royals hard hitter Sanju Samson has opened up his IPL 2020 spell with substantial performances in the first two games, which has seen Samson being equated to a prime Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the former Team India and current CSK skipper who was regularly landing swashbuckling knocks in his younger days. However Samson now himself gives his opinion on the comparison and says its a fool’s errand to try and play like Mahi.

Sanju Samson’s first match this season saw a 32-ball-74 against CSK, followed by an 85-off-42 in their second victory against Kings XI Punjab. Following the second win, the player was praised as the ‘next MS Dhoni’ by none other than Congress MP Shashi Tharoor.

On the other hand, former Men in Blue opening batsman and BJP MP Gautam Gambhir, in turn, disagreed with Tharoor. He said that Sanju Samson doesn’t need to be the next Dhoni, rather he should be the first of his name.

Now, Samson himself sees eye to eye with Gambhir and says that not just himself but no cricketer can ever be the next MS Dhoni.

I never think of playing like MS Dhoni: Sanju Samson

Sanju Samson has already scored 159 runs from 2 matches with a whopping 214.86 strike rate. The Kerala Cricket Team stalwart has also struck a whopping 16 sixes and 5 fours in the tournament until now.

While the RR run machine is no doubt reminding a huge chunk of cricket fans of the younger MS Dhoni who was known for smashing the ball out of the park like a piece of cake, Samson himself states that there’s no worth pondering over such a comparison.

“I am sure that no one can and no one should try to play like him. It’s not at all easy to play like MS Dhoni, so leave that aside,” Samson told PTI.

“I never think of playing like MS Dhoni. He is a legend of Indian cricket, legend of the game,” the 25-year-old added.

Samson will return to the 22 yards on 30th September as Rajasthan Royals takes on Kolkata Knight Riders in Dubai.
