NEUFC appoints Khalid Jamal as the new head coach

History was made the day, NorthEast United FC appointed Khalid Jamal as the squad’s manager. Khalid is the first Indian head coach in the history of Indian Super League. Khalid proved that he was up for the job when he lead the team to the semi finals after taking over from Gerard Nus. The highlanders were not having a very good time before Khalid came onboard. The club was struggling to defeat their opponents and progress to the next round. After Khalid took over, the team’s performance improved by leaps and bounds. They stunned everyone after they won 9 matches back to the back to be the last four.

Khalid is no novice when it comes to mentoring a team. The former midfielder has previously coached the Mohun Bagan and the East Bengal team. The brightest spot in his coaching career has been the 2017 I-League when he was in charge of Aizawl FC. He had a significant role to play in the Mizoram club’s victory.

Kept the Mumbai FC afloat for seven years

In his heydays as a player, Khalid played for Mumbai FC. The 44 year old played as a midfielder. After he retired as a player he assumed the role of a mentor for the Mumbai FC. He had been shouldering the responsibility for seven long years and had been quite good at his job. He also played for Air India and Mahindra United. Both Mohun Bagan and East Bengal scouted him when he was still playing, but he never accepted their offer.

The next ISL match is take place at the Athletic Stadium, Bambolim, Goa on November 20. NEUFC will butting heads against the 2018-2019 champions Bengaluru FC.
