High expectations on Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Jena ahead of the Olympics
Neeraj Chopra, the reigning Olympic and World Champion, is no stranger to the limelight. He has a string of accolades to his name, including a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics and the 2023 World Athletics Championships in Budapest. His personal best throw stands at 89.94m. Neeraj’s return to the Doha leg of the Diamond League series is eagerly anticipated by fans and fellow athletes alike.
Accompanying Neeraj is Kishore Jena, who will be making his Diamond League debut. Jena, an Asian Games silver medalist, proved his mettle last year with a personal best throw of 87.54m. This achievement earned him a silver medal and a place among the top javelin throwers in the world.
The Doha Diamond League will take place on May 10th, marking the start of the season for both athletes. They will be competing in a star-studded 10-man field, which includes former world champion Anderson Peters, and Olympic silver medalists Jakub Vadlejch and Julius Yego. Notably, Johannes Vetter of Germany, who has been battling injuries over the last three years, will not be part of the 10-man field.
Neeraj Chopra’s return to competitive action is significant as he won the Doha Diamond League last year. He has been training meticulously in the off-season in Turkey and South Africa. As he steps onto the field, he carries with him the hopes of a nation and the goal to defend his Olympic title.
