Track and field athlete Neeraj Chopra reached the final of the Men’s Javelin Throw event with a stunning qualification table-topping effort of 86.65 metres.
The final of the event, where 6 athletes have gained an automatic qualification, will take place on August 7. Chopra has already secured gold in the Asian Games, as well as the Commonwealth Games.
This is Neeraj Chopra’s debut Olympic campaign, and he sealed his spot in the final on the first attempt itself, with the qualification mark set at 83.50 metres. He even finished ahead of gold-medal favourite and Olympic winner Johannes Vetter of Germany
Another Olympic debutant Shivpal Singh could not seal a place in the final with efforts of 76.40m, 74.80m and 74.81m in the qualification round.
