Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra has yet etched another historic feat for India, as the javelin throwing icon becomes the first from the country to clinch the Diamond League Title in the Finals in Zurich on Thursday.

During the men’s javelin final in the Swiss capital, Neeraj made his best throw in his second attempt, clocking an enormous 88.44m which was sufficient for the 24-year-old to place himself ahead of the five other competitors.

Even though Neeraj started off his stint with a foul throw at first and was placed at the bottom of the table, the remarkable second throw put him right above the rest. He marked another 88.00m throw in his third attempt, Neeraj had already placed himself in a comfortable gap ahead of the rest of the throwers.

The fourth and fifth attempts from the Indian Army JCO clocked 86.11m and 87.00m marks respectively. In his sixth and final throw of the night, Neeraj threw 83.60m. His closest competitor in the Finals was Czech Republic’s Jakub Vadlejch, who failed to break into the 87m mark, finishing with 86.94m as his best attempt.
