Need the same competitive attitude into the Tests: A confident Virat Kohli says after winning T20I series against Australia

Australia have secured a convincing win in the third Twenty20 International against India and restricted the visitors to clinch a clean sweep. Although India won the three-match T20I series by 2-1, with this loss, their 10-match winning streak has also been ended. While India put up a good show in the limited-overs series, captain Virat Kohli stressed that they need to carry the momentum in the four-match Test series.

“We need to take the same competitive attitude into the Tests, and having played here a few times, we can score runs as well. Once it’s time to capitalize and score, we need to do that session by session. I’m sure the current side is stronger than last time (Test matches) and I’ll see if I can play the tour match,” he shared after the game.

He further added that they need to bring their ‘A’ game into four-match Test series as this Australian team is totally different than the team they beat in the last season. Notably, that team didn’t feature two of their best batsmen – David Warner and Steve Smith due to their involvement in the infamous ball-tampering scandal. And this time, Team India wouldn’t get the service of Kohli for the final three Tests.

As far as the final T20I is concerned, Kohli smashed a swashbuckling 85 but failed to take the team home. All hope was on Hardik Pandya, who smacked 42 in the second T20I and win the game for India – but he couldn’t replicate his form and India lost by 12 runs. However, Virat Kohli admitted that at one point he thought that Pandya would do the job. But he also added that the series win has helped them finish the season on a high.

“At one stage when Hardik started going we thought we could pull it off. The middle over phase during our batting cost us the game. A partnership of 30-odd would’ve made it easier for Hardik,” Kohli said.

“We are finding ways to come back and give the opposition a scare and the series win is a little asterisk for us to finish the 2020 season on a high. I feel the crowd was a factor as well, it’s always giving you a dimension of motivation. Our crowd pulls us through sometimes, and Australia’s too, and we as players feed off the crowd’s energy,” he concluded.
