India star batsman KL Rahul has been in the form of his life. Rahul who was dropped from the test team went back to domestic cricket and since his return , there has been no looking back.
KL Rahul in the absence of Rishabh Pant who was out due to concussion, has been keeping wickets for India in the series against Australia. The comparison of him and Rahul Dravid have already been started to drawn after his sensational performance in Rajkot.
In Rajkot the Indian batsman scored a quickfire 80 and also did a quick stumping to get the wicket of Aaron Finch, Rahul’s performance gave the crowd and the fans to cheer once about the wicket-keeper since MS Dhoni’s absence.
Former Indian Opener and Ranji great Aakash Chopra feels that KL Rahul is better keeper than Rahul Dravid was in his playing days and was also of te thought thatthe batsman shouldn’t be given dual roles.
“He is a better keeper than what Dravid was but I would not want him to keep on a regular basis. Keeping takes a toll. He can’t be keeping for 50 overs and then batting higher up the order,” Chopra told Press Trust of India ahead of the series decider here on Sunday.
Former Indian Wicket Keeper Nayan Mongia is also of the thought that KL Rahul cannot be India’s first Choice Wicket Keeper even though he also feels that he feels that KL Rahul’s technique is better than that of Rahul Dravid who kept for India in 2003 World Cup an many other games.
“He can be a good second wicket-keeper. He cannot be a permanent wicket-keeper in ODIs. T20s it is still okay but not in ODIs. There should be a regular keeper but he can be a second option,” Mongia said.
He also felt that India should go with a specialist keeper instead of a part-time keeper in One Day Internationals.
“You need to have a specialist keeper anyway, Rishabh is there for that. Yesterday was just a chance to try Rahul out and he did reasonably well.”
