Indian women team forward Navneet Kaur has shed praise over the current development and growth of women’s hockey in the country in the recent times and terms it as the ‘golden period’ regarding the improvement of the sport for the female players.

In recent history, the women’s hockey scene in India has seen its recognition and opportunities to be one and the same with its male counterpart, which Navneet believes has helped many girls to consider a career in hockey.
“I believe this is the golden period for women’s hockey in India,” the striker was quoted in a recent Hockey India press release, “We are given equal importance, job security, financial benefits through cash awards when we win, all these are great encouraging factors to take up the sport professionally.”

The Women’s hockey team has been marvellous in international tournaments in recent years. They were the crowned champions of the 2017 Asia Cup, along with a silver at the 2018 Asian Games. They also won the Asian Champions Trophy in 2016 and reached the finals again two years later.
The Nabhvarna varna also made it to the quarterfinals of the 2018 Women’s Hockey World Cup, where they faced elimination against Ireland in the penalties.
The 24-year old, who hails from Haryana, lauded the recent achievements of the team, which she also believes has increased the fan following of women’s hockey in the country.
“I feel the following for our team has also grown tremendously since our improved performances at the 2018 Women’s World Cup, Asia Cup, Asian Games and Asian Champions Trophy,” Navneeth continued, “It is very motivating to see fans leaving us messages on social media and expressing their support to us.”

The forward who has made 57 international appearances and scored 16 times, hailed Hockey India for uplifting the country’s women’s hockey scene.
“I give credit to Hockey India who have given significant importance to the growth of women’s hockey and they ensure there are no shortcomings in our preparations for events. Even when a player is injured, they ensure we get the best treatment and rehab,” added Navneet.
Navneeth Kaur opens up on training at the national hockey camp
Navneet is currently training at the national hockey camp Sports Authority of India (SAI) campus in Bengaluru, which was recently extended till 12th December. She gave an account of the training at the camp and how it has benefitted them.
“Our intensity has increased this week onwards and we are able to take more load without facing any fatigue,” the player went on, “We are happy that we are hitting the same fitness levels prior to the lockdown.
“The best part is that, since we continued our fitness regime through indoor workouts during the series of lockdowns none of us put on weight. These factors have helped us a lot,” Navneeth added.
