N Srinivasan claims Suresh Raina’s comeback is out of his hands

Like every team, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) too were eyeing to start their campaign with flying colours. However, they got a big blow when 13 members from their camp got affected by the deadly COVID-19, including two players and their key player Suresh Raina pulled out his name from the entire tournament.

While his sudden decision left everyone shocked, Chennai Super Kings owner N Srinivasan’s recent comment and some reports suggested about a probable rift in the camp. However, later the owner said that Suresh Raina is like a “son” to him on Wednesday. He further said that his return to the team during the IPL will be decided by the team management which is led by none other than captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni and CEO KS Viswanathan.

Last week, Raina had left the CSK camp in Dubai and there was news regarding an alleged breach of bio bubble as well which he denied. While the owner was initially angry with Raina’s sudden departure, he shared his thoughts later. Even, Suresh Raina too shared his views on this matter.

“I have treated him like one (son). The reason for CSK’s success in IPL over the years is because of the fact that franchise never poked its nose into cricketing matters. India Cements is running cricket since ’60s. I will always remain like that,” N Srinivasan told PTI. “Look, please understand, that that’s not my domain (whether Raina will come back or not) at all.”

“We own a team, we own the franchise but we do not own players. The team is ours but players are not. I don’t own the players,” he again added.

“I am not the cricket captain. I have never told them (team management) whom to play, whom to take in the auction, never. We have the greatest captain of all times. So, why shall I even interfere in cricketing matters?” Srinivasan concluded.

CSK have won the title three times and once again they will try to leave their mark by winning the trophy this year as well. The 2020 edition of IPL will take place from September 19 and the 53-day tournament will end on November 10 in the UAE across three venues –Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Sharjah.
