My COVID Heroes: Virat Kohli to wear customised RCB kit dedicated to Corona Warriors

To pay homage to the Corona Warriors battling against the pandemic in the front lines, the Royal Challengers Bangalore squad including skipper Virat Kohli will wear a specialised jersey in the 2020 Indian Premier League.

Alongside the doctors, nurses and healthcare workers, the past few months of the novel Coronavirus pandemic in India has seen several instances of people who have come forward to assist the distressed. Terming them as ‘COVID Heroes’, Kohli and the RCB contingent decides to pay tribute to them.

The specialised jersey will have “My COVID Heroes” written at the back and will honour the Corona Warriors of India, who gave a helping hand to the needy during the times of crisis. The full squad, including the captain, will don the customised kit throughout the tournament in UAE.

On Thursday, Virat Kohli, Parthiv Patel and Devdutt Padikkal have had conversations with such ‘COVID Heroes’. The Bengaluru-based franchise has decided on multiple initiatives to tribute the warriors, terming them as ‘Real Challengers’.

At the launch event of the soecial kit, RCB chairman Sanjeev Churiwala stated that Virat Kohli’s jersey from their IPL 2020 opening match against SunRisers Hyderabad will also be put up in an auction, and the funds raised from it will be donated to the GiveIndia Foundation NGO as a part of the initiatives.

At the launch event of the jersey, Kohli hailed the ‘COVID Heroes’ and emphasised that the special kit as being a tribute to their toils during the past months of the pandemic.

“In the past few months, whenever I heard the stories of the Covid Heroes it has given me literal goosebumps. These real challengers have made the country proud and inspired all of us to be more persistent and dedicated to our efforts to build a better tomorrow.” the RCB skipper said at the event.

The Men in Blue captain has been vocal about supporting the aforementioned ‘COVID Heroes’ during the pandemic. Back in March, both Kohli and Anushka Sharma together had donated Rs 3 crore to the PM-CARES fund.

“I am truly proud to wear RCB’s ‘My COVID Heroes’ jersey as a sign of solidarity and gratitude to everyone who is right now going the extra mile to support the community at large. They have batted day and night and fought on the field, and I am honoured to call them my heroes,” the 31 year old added.
