Mumbai Indians announced the appointment of Carl Hopkinson as their new fielding coach ahead of the IPL 2025 season. Hopkinson, who was part of the England men’s team that won the 2019 ODI World Cup, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to the role.

Known affectionately as “Hoppo,” Hopkinson served as England’s lead fielding coach for seven years, contributing to their triumphs in the 2022 T20 World Cup and their runner-up finish at the 2022 ICC Under-19 World Cup.

Carl Hopkinson is the new Mumbai Indians’ Fielding Coach

Hopkinson replaces James Pamment, who had been an integral part of the Mumbai Indians’ coaching staff for the past seven seasons. Pamment’s tenure saw the franchise secure back-to-back IPL trophies in 2019 and 2020, and he leaves behind a legacy of exceptional contributions to the team. The Mumbai Indians expressed heartfelt gratitude to Pamment, acknowledging his invaluable role in the team’s success.

The appointment of Hopkinson is part of a broader coaching staff overhaul at Mumbai Indians, with Mahela Jayawardene reappointed as head coach and Paras Mhambrey named as the bowling coach. The franchise aims to bounce back from their 10th place finish in the IPL 2024 season and challenge for the title in 2025.

Hopkinson’s extensive experience in fielding dynamics and his proven track record with England make him a valuable addition to the Mumbai Indians’ coaching team. His expertise in sharp fielding strategies and execution is expected to enhance the team’s performance on the field.
