With an intention to tribute the city of Mumbai and to get ‘closer than ever’ with its passionate fanbase, Mumbai City FC have unveiled a special mural and a banner against the backdrop of their first home match of the Indian Super League 2020/21 season against East Bengal.
Born from the mind of the young Mumbai artist Tanya Eden, the beautiful mural and banner are currently at display at the Andheri Sports Complex in Mumbai and Goa respectively.
The mural depicts the importance of sportsmanship, dedication and perseverance, as well as tributes the city of Mumbai and its people- from the skyscrapers, majestic hoardings and beautiful beaches to the inhabitants through whom the iconic city lives and breaths, including the iconic dabbawalas, to the healthcare professionals, the security personnel, the essential workers and countless others who have toiled throughout the year when the city was battling the COVID-19 pandemic.
On the other hand, the banner upholds The atmosphere in the coastal areas of Goa- the scenic waves, reminiscent of the waves of energy and passion that the club’s fans once brought onto the stadium, which now remain empty due to the pandemic.
“I am really honoured to be presenting the very special mural, which represents the Herculean spirit of the city and its people,” said Mumbai District Football Association president Aditya Thackeray while revealing the artistic mural, “as always, I wish the Club the very best for this season, and always know that as fans, we are all rooting for you.”
“Mumbai City FC is the heartbeat of our city, and is one of the biggest clubs in the country. All of us fans in Mumbai, including myself, will be fully behind the team and will be praying for an ISL title this season. That will surely bring the smile back on the faces of the Mumbaikars!” Aditya Thackeray added.
Bollywood icon Ranbir Kapoor, who is the co-owner of Mumbai City FC presented the banner, “Mumbai City FC is the pulse of this great and beautiful city of Mumbai. The vehement and enthusiastic support that we get every year from our fans is certainly something that creates a special feeling for our players, and with the pandemic having forced fans to watch and support only from their TV sets and social media, our ambition has been to bring everyone closer together.”
“With these amazing illustrations, we wanted to show the players that everyone in the city is behind them, and to the fans, we wanted to say that they are closer than ever to the team with their bright energy whenever they play the most beautiful game,” Ranbir Kapoor further stated.
Club co-owner Ranbir Kapoor and President of the MDFA, Mr. Aditya Thackeray helped us unveil our special #CloserThanEver artwork earlier today! 💙
