Muhammad Ali ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ belt sold at auction for almost a whopping 50 crore INR


The late pro boxing legend Muhammad Ali’s championship belt from his 1974 “Rumble in the Jungle” heavyweight title fight has been sold at an auction on Sunday. The amount at which it was sold was sky-high that is $6.18 million (approximately 49,32,84,819 INR). It has been noted that the winner of the heated competition for the belt was Indianapolis Colts owner Jim Irsay as per the Heritage Auctions in Dallas.

Irsay sent out a Tweet on Sunday to confirm that he acquired the belt for his collection of rock music, American history, and pop culture memorabilia that is currently touring the country.

“BREAKING—-Muhammad Ali’s championship belt from 1974 ‘Rumble in the Jungle’ when he employed his rope-a-dope and defeated George Foreman—-just added to @IrsayCollection Just in time for the Aug. 2 show at Chicago’s Navy Pier (and Sept. 9 at Indy). Proud to be the steward!,” he stated in a Tweet.

The belt will be displayed on August 2 at Chicago’s Navy Pier and on September 9 in Indianapolis.

“After several hours of watching two bidders go back and forth over this belt, this proved to be a battle worthy of the Rumble itself,” Chris Ivy, Heritage’s director of sports auctions, said in a statement.

Famously hailed as ‘The Greatest,’ Ali had been involved in numerous fights during his legendary career. The 1974 fight for the title was one of boxing’s most memorable moments. Ali had stopped the fearsome George Foreman and recaptured the heavyweight title in the African nation of Zaire. Ali had won the fight in a knockout in the eighth round.
