Chennai Super Kings registered two successive wins for the first time in this year’s edition of the IPL after a nerve-wracking contest against Kolkata Knight Riders. Captain MS Dhoni lauded Ravindra Jadeja and Ruturaj Gaikwad for their efforts which got them over the line in the very last ball of the match.

After only winning 3 matches out of their first 11, Chennai Super Kings were on the verge of a humiliating exit from the competition. However, as the tournament reached its business end, the three-time winners managed to treat some of their wounds with consecutive wins.

While the side managed to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore with ease in a simple run chase, things turned tricky against Kolkata Knight Riders who took the fight till the very last ball of the match. Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 53-ball vigilance set the platform while Ravindra Jadeja delivered the flourish in impeccable flamboyant style. Speaking after the contest, MS Dhoni praised Jadeja and singled him as the lone player who has been successful with the bat in the death overs for the franchise this season.

“Lot of credit to the guys. This season he (Jadeja) has been fantastic. He has been the only one in our team who has scored in the death overs. He needed somebody else and that would have been good for us,” Dhoni said

MS Dhoni pleased with how Gaikwad has grabbed his chances after initial failure

Ruturaj Gaikwad endured a horrific start to his IPL career after only managing to score 5 runs off his first 3 matches, which included 2 ducks. The 23-year-old, albeit late, has brought his personal campaign back on track with back-to-back fifties, which has earned admiration from MS Dhoni.

“We want to give games to people who haven’t played. Ruturaj has shown the talent that he is. He came in and got positive with Covid. We didn’t have much time to have a look at him. He is one of the talented youngsters going around,”

“He is not someone who speaks a lot. Once you go inside, you are the only one handling the pressure. When we made him play the first game, he stepped out and got out. But one ball is never enough. I think it is very exciting how he has grabbed his chances,”
